Our Minister

A Picture of Our Minister

Dewayne Thomas, a native Oklahoman, has been our minister since 1979. He was asked to fill in for a few weeks when the previous minister left and is still "filling in". Since he is a history teacher as well as a minister he can explain the intricacies of politics in the Roman Empire and how it relates to Christianity on down to how science is effecting our lives today. With a broad knowledge of Greek and Hebrew as well as of both ancient and modern history he is able to not only explain the Holy Scriptures, but to explain the connotations of the words and their probable effects on the hearers.

His sequence of insightful lessons on Revelation were very eye opening and informative. He took an approach based on the the book "Worthy is the Lamb" by Ray Summers.

His recent study of Proverbs brought out the interesting thought that in many cases the author's choice of words in Hebrew was not just to convey meaning but to chose words which rhymed in order to make the verse or song easier to remember. Some modern textual critics don't take the Hebrew sounds into their analysis and so may draw wrong conclusions.

Dewayne and his wife, LaVeta, have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
