LOOKING TO JESUS FOR ANSWERS AND STRENGTH
WHEN WE ASK ABOUT THE END OF TIME AND
THE NATURE OF LIFE AFTER DEATH?

Jesus, Please tell us about the end of the world?

All in the grave will hear his voice and come forth, John 5:28-29
Jesus is coming again, but even he didn't know when,
Only God, the Father, knows. Matt. 24:36-39
What we do know is that judgment
is coming, Heb. 9:27-28

At the judgment I want to hear
"Well done good and faithful servant", Matt. 25:21

I don't know everything, but I will prepare and try to be ready.

Jesus, Please tell us what Heaven will be like?

We will be there forever, no calendars, no clocks. 1 Thess. 4:16-18
We will not get tired Isaiah 40:28-31

We will have a place there. Jesus went to prepare a place for us,
a place for me, for you, for all of his followers, John 14:1-3

Heaven will be Majestic, wonderful, amazing, 1 Cor. 2:9

In heaven, you will be you, forever. Matthew 17:1-3
In the transfiguration Moses and Elijah were recognizable,

We will have plenty. If you are faithful in a little,
Christ will give you a lot more. Matthew 25:29

We will be like angels - spiritual beings. Matthew 22:27-30
We don't know all the details, but we will be like him
and we will see him as he is. 1 John 3:2

Heaven will be an eternal inheritance of joy and greatness
with infinite fun, interesting, and useful things to do

When in the garden - Adam had the pleasant task
of classifying and naming the animals.

No frustrations, no tears in heaven. Rev. 21:3-4

People who appreciate Christ and what he has done for them
look forward to: forgiveness, eternal life,
and standing before God

Jesus, please tell us how we can face aging?

With Jesus we can face aging with enthusiam.
He can transform us into creatures of eternity.

Virgil says that he is getting old
He would preach as a dying man to dying men.
He would preach as a herald (proclaimer) of the King of Heaven.

We are sinners redeemed by the grace of God.
We have accepted the invitation to dying men to live forever.

Trust God, not your wealth.
God will provide for your enjoyment.
Be generous & rich in good deeds & live. 1 Tim. 6:17-19

Make your blessings count.
Share with others, let Jesus be seen in you.
Satan wants to give you junk food, material things,
so that you won't want the real spiritual food, God's word.
Make a difference to the world in which you live.
Bear fruit for God. Psalms 92:12-15

Don't be a complainer, Phil. 2:14-16, instead,
Shine as lights in the universe radiating out the word of life.
With Christ there is forgiveness of sins. Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

If God could forgive Paul who did terrible things to the church.
Then God can forgive someone like me, if I believe and obey! 1 Tim. 1:15-16
These verses give me Hope and Joy and Courage to face the future
I can humbly yet confidently pray to God to "Have mercy on me".
The prayer of the publican fits us all. Luke 18:13-14
Now I can face old age with confidence.

Excerpts from Poem "Morituri Salutamus"
by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What shall I say shall I sit idly by and say
the night has come the day is past- - -

there is yet something for us to do and dare
the oldest trees some fruit may bear - - -

For age is opportunity no less
Than youth itself, though in another dress,

And as the evening twilight fades away
The sky is filled with stars, invisible by day.

CONCLUSION

Jesus is the answer to every human predicament
and the giver of strength for each and every human need.
come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden.
Matt. 11:28-30

Virgil's Closing Prayer

Lord give us wisdom to prepare
and singleness of heart to be ready,
give us insight and faith to lift our hearts
to get a glimpse of all that you have prepared for us.
Help us convey this to the young people coming after us.
Help us open our eyes and look about and pray,
and be about doing your work.
Thank you for listening to us.
Thank you for the young.
Please bless them.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Scripture References

John 5:28-29 "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out--those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. Back to Lesson

Matt. 24:36-39 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Back to Lesson

Hebrews 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. Back to Lesson

Matt. 25:21 "His master replied, `Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Back to Lesson

1 Thess. 4:16-18 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. Back to Lesson

Isaiah 40:28-31 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Back to Lesson

John 14:1-3 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. Back to Lesson

1 Cor. 2:9 However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" -- Back to Lesson

Matthew 17:1-3 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Back to Lesson

Matthew 25:29 For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him Back to Lesson

Matthew 22:27-30 Finally, the woman died. Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?" Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. Back to Lesson

1 John 3:2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Back to Lesson

Rev. 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Back to Lesson

1 Timothy 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. Back to Lesson

Psalms 92:12-15 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; Planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, Back to Lesson

Phil 2:14-16 Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life--- Back to Lesson

Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Back to Lesson

Luke 18:13-14 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, `God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Back to Lesson

1 Timothy 1:15-16 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Back to Lesson

Matt 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Back to Lesson
