Summer

"Oh, my it's hot!" said the man next door.
This heat wave has been on for a month or more!
The birds have stopped singing and are waiting for a breeze
As they all flock together in the branches of the trees.
The old hound dog just sits and moans
Looking for a cool spot to eat his bones.
Crops in the fields are beginning to die.
Shortage on water; the wells are going dry.

What are folks going to do? It's more than we can stand!
All shut up in the house, sitting by the fan.
Weather man says he can see no change.
We can't last much longer if we don't get some rain.
A small child comes walking down the street
Umbrella in her hand and galoshes on her feet.
"Where are you going my little miss?
You shouldn't be out in weather like this."
"Oh, I'm well prepared, sir. Please don't complain.
I've talked to God and it's going to rain."
Far off in the distance a cloud began to appear
Oh, it will go around us and never reach here.

As it formed and came closer, much to our surprise
The rain began to fall -- right before our eyes!
"I just can't believe it," said the man next door,
"That is what the child has been praying for -
She certainly had faith as she walked down the street
With her umbrella in her hand and galoshes on her feet."
